Change Lives this Weight Stigma Awareness Week!
It’s time for change.
Examples of weight stigma are all around us, from hurtful comments to discrimination in healthcare, clothing brands and employment. Weight stigma refers to the unfair and negative stereotypes, judgments, and biases people face based on their body size and weight. Weight Stigma Awareness Week, co-created by Chevese Turner (Body Equity Alliance) and Wendy Oliver-Pyatt (Within Health), is a movement to eliminate anti-fat bias and end the stigma, shame and discrimiation around body shape and size.
This year, our team is highlighting the ways that weight stigma affects so many individuals on a daily basis so that we can be a part of making a difference. All week long, we will share resources and highlight organizations that eradicate the stigma around weight, and spread the message that all bodies rock, no matter their shape or size! Be sure to follow us on social media to keep up with us.
Rock Recovery was founded on the belief that ALL people should be able to access the life-saving eating disorder therapy and support they need to heal without finances being a barrier to care, and we are dedicated to bringing this vision to life one step at a time.
