Eating disorders impact individuals across all cultural backgrounds, yet Hispanic and Latine communities face unique barriers to accessing timely and appropriate care. Through data and discussion, we’ll uncover the realities of eating disorders in these communities and equip providers with practical strategies to break down their own biases, while building up trust and understanding so that they can help their clients heal. This event is designed to help providers (therapists, dietitians, social workers, etc.) deepen their cultural humility and strengthen their ability to serve Hispanic and Latine clients with compassion and effectiveness.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
Identify key statistics and trends related to eating disorders within Hispanic and Latine populations.
Recognize common stereotypes, cultural misconceptions, and barriers that hinder care.
Identify openings to use curiosity as a way to help clients feel seen and valued.
Apply culturally humble approaches to improve the therapeutic relationship, as well as treatment outcomes for the client.
CE credits will not be provided for this event. For additional questions, please email Kristyn Soto at kristyn@rockrecoveryed.org.
