Gentle Yoga to Build Positive Body Image

Does your perception of your body image hold you back from taking risks or living life? Does negative self talk about your body fill up a lot of space in your head? Does your relationship with food or exercise feel off balance? Do you want a safe space to practice yoga without triggering language such as reminders of “swimsuit season”? Do you want to be more aware of your bodies needs and signals?

If you resonate with any of these questions, join us for this gentle yoga class offered weekly for 12 weeks starting Sunday, September 10th! Through yoga practice, mindfulness and body awareness exercises, we’ll begin to explore how yoga can be a part of healing from an eating disorder and developing and maintaining a more positive body image.

No experience with yoga is necessary, this class is appropriate for all levels. All bodies are welcome! Wear clothing you can move comfortably in and bring a yoga mat if you have one (If you need one, please RSVP 24 hours in advance and let us know you need a mat). Thank you!

Instructor Bio:

Yoga helped transform Christi’s relationship with her body and exercise during her recovery journey. She became a yoga teacher and a counseling student because she is passionate about sharing those benefits with others! Christi is a trauma-sensitive RYT-200 certified teacher who has done additional trainings in Healing Trauma through Yoga, Yoga for Autism, and Yin Yoga. She is a counseling intern with Rock Recovery.

Rock Recovery is a DC-area based nonprofit that supports the journey to freedom from disordered eating by bridging gaps in treatment and education and removing barriers of cost, accessibility, and isolation. Our holistic and affordable outpatient recovery program successfully helps adult men and women by providing group meals, group psychotherapy, mentor matching, individual goal-setting meetings and optional chaplaincy and Christian support services. We believe that complete freedom from disordered eating is possible, and our doors are open to all who wish to partake in their journey to freedom with us.
